Meia Praia
A massively long (5km) and open sandy beach that curves its way Eastward from Lagos Marina all the way to the Alvor Estuary. We love Meia Praia at all times but it is especially good either in the early morning, or in the evening from 5.00pm onward when the surf (usually) has calmed down and you can cool a sunbronzed body with some easy swimming. All kinds of facilities for those who enjoy water sports are available, from para-gliding to windsurfing to pedalos, at a number of locations and there are hotels, serviced apartments, restaurants and snack-bars dotted along its length.

It is an ideal beach for families with children as there is so much space for the young'uns to run around without annoying others and the gently shelving gradient means they can play in the surf quite safely (with the proviso that you always keep your eyes on them). A regular, cooling breeze means that you can get caught by sun-burn without realising it (because you're having so much fun!) so don't forget to cover-up.

Parking spots are available along almost the entire length of the beach, but you have to cross the coastal railway line that runs into Lagos from Faro. We LOVE this beach. A must visit.
